Bag It! Foundations of Instructional
Design
Good trainers learn as they instruct, by figuring out what works
during the actual training experience. Great trainers use a
strong foundation of training basics to plan, design, and
prepare for training, before they actually present a class,
workshop, or staff development program.
This workshop gives trainers the foundational pieces needed for
effective design and development of training programs and
materials. Some of the major concepts addressed in this program
will include:
1. The most current research behind effective training design.
2. Adult learning theory as it relates to instructional design.
3. Where to begin when designing and developing training
programs.
4. How to effectively sequence training content.
5. How to structure a course, workshop, presentation, or staff
training program.
6. Writing observable and measurable training objectives and
learning
outcomes.
7. Creating important checklists for all training steps.
8. Getting learners connected to the content in meaningful,
interesting ways.
9. How to lessen the lecture and increase the
practice/application time in
training.
10. Developing interesting, relevant, "learner-centered"
training materials and
resources.
11. Conducting pre- and post-training needs assessments and
evaluation.
12. Evaluating the return on training investment.
